Rider Responsibilities
OK. This is where it starts getting serious (and requires bigger text).
IT IS THE DRIVER'S (OR RIDER'S) RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW HE HAS THE RIGHT TO DRIVE A PARTICULAR ROAD. SAYING "RICH TOLD ME IT WAS OK" WILL NOT STAND UP IN COURT.
Here are some basic ways to demonstrate your right to ride a road:
1, If the OS map shows a BOAT symbol and there are no TRO signs in place, that's fine.
Check the status on the definitive map at the coucil offices. Many have the information available online. When I visited Newcastle library to see the map for Staffordshire, I was directed to the internet for up-to-date information.
2, If the OS map shows a ORPA symbol and there are (or have been) UNSUITABLE FOR MOTORS signs in place, that's probably fine.
3, If there is a BOAT claim in for the road - It's OK to drive until the decision is made (e.g. Brushfield Lane)
Many of the lanes we use in Derbyshire fall into this catagory. DCC are working through the backlog now. In about 2004 the TRF put claims in for every lane they could. Since the 2006 NERC act, you can no longer raise a new BOAT claim.
And finally .......
Don't forget to join the TRF
