Maps You've got your trail bike, now where can you ride it? Get yourself an OS map of the area you're interested in. Have a look for Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT). You can view OS maps online at Bing Maps or OS Getamap
Map symbols with comments robbed from the now defunct www.thegreenlanecrew.co.uk. Once you've found a BOAT, if it has no Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), you SHOULD be able to ride it!! Easy huh? Don't be too disappointed when you get there if it is just a tarmac road or you can't actually find any evidence of a track on the ground. Classic Google Maps Streetview is useful for checking out the ends of Byways for signage and evidence of recent use. Sometimes the google car has even driven all the way along the odd Byway. |

TRO Signs Know your TRO signs!
No Motor Vehicles, except Solo Motorcycles (Hurrah!).
No Motor Vehicles.
No vehicles except bicycles being pushed.
No Ramblers.
No Buses. This would indcate anything less than a bus IS allowed. |
|
Unsuitable For Motors??
Unsuitable for Motors is a good sign. It is only advisory. It SHOULD mean: a) The road is adopted. b) Vehicular rights exist. This sign alone SHOULD be enough evidence for you to ride the lane. |

And finally ....... Don't forget to join the TRF ![]() |
